Surf Lessons for Beginners: What to Expect

You might be wondering what to expect from your first surf lessons if you have decided to have one.  Below are some of the things you can expect for your first surf lessons.

There are surf schools that will let you sign a waiver first that say that you agree that surfing can be a dangerous activity, and if you get hurt, you promise not to sue the school or something to that effect.

You will then be fitted out with the appropriate gear depending on where you are taking the surf lessons san diego and in what season. It could include a full wetsuit or just a rash shirt depending on the conditions. You will then be measured up for an appropriate surf board. Soft surfboards are usually used in surf schools for their lessons. They are a lot safer than the regular surfboards because they are softer. They are covered in foam with plastic fins.

Then you will meet your surfing instructor, if you haven't met him yet. They are usually the local surf people, nice sun tan, lean and fit looking. He will pick out a nice section of the beach for you and your fellow surfers. Then he will lead your group through a series of warm up exercises. These are very important exercises. When you go surfing for the first time, you body is given a lot of stress, just like any other sport. There will be lots of knocks, falls, and use of muscles you never knew you had on you first san diego surf classes. And warm up exercises will help wake those muscles up.

The fun starts when you put your surfboard on the sand and lay on it, and pretend to paddle. You should follow your instructor and you will be thankful when you finally get to the water. Here, the surfing instructor will lead you through some simple techniques that will give you the best chance of going home a surfer. You should pay close attention since these techniques are what make the difference in your surf lessons.

You won't be taken out too far in the water during your first surf lessons. You will usually stand in about waist depth of water and catch the small white water waves. These are the best waves to practice your technique on. If you listen closely to your instructor, you should be able to stand up by the end of your first surfing lesson.

After the first lessons, you will go back to the surf school with your instructor, return your gears and dry off. Hopefully you first day surfing has been a success and will return for another lesson soon.
